Van Cortlandt Park in PicturesPhotography by Billy Cleary Opening Reception: Saturday, October 3, 2026 | 3:00–5:00 PMVan Cortlandt House Museum presents Van Cortlandt Park in Pictures, a photography exhibition by Riverdale photographer Billy Cleary celebrating the landscapes, wildlife, and changing seasons of Van Cortlandt Park.A Riverdale resident for more than three decades, Cleary has spent years photographing the places and scenes that define his surroundings. His images capture familiar views of Van Cortlandt Park throughout the year, from tree-lined paths and expansive fields to the park’s ponds, wildlife, and historic entrances. Together, the photographs offer a personal portrait of one of the Bronx’s most significant green spaces through the eyes of a longtime neighbor.Cleary’s interest in photography took on new importance during the pandemic, when he began sharing more of his work on social media. Messages from people who were largely confined to their homes and looked forward to seeing his photographs encouraged him to continue documenting and sharing the landscapes around him. His work has since appeared in group exhibitions with the Riverdale Art Association and in solo exhibitions at the Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture and An Beal Bocht Café.The public is invited to meet the photographer and view the exhibition during an opening reception on Saturday, October 3, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Van Cortlandt House Museum. Light refreshments will be served.Please note: The opening reception is for guests ages 21 and over. IDs will be checked at the door.Van Cortlandt Park in Pictures will remain on view through November 8, 2026.Accessibility: at this time, the historic house is accessed using one set of stairs. The exhibition opening reception will take place on the first floor.
